Title: Caption chains
Post by: Matt/Martina on July 26, 2011, 09:03:57 AM
On a few occasions(including an open ended effort on the Haven's Trading folder) I/we have done caption chains...basically a story that involves one guy turning into a girl who either directly or indirectly triggers the transformation of someone else etc etc.

Anyone up for a contest based on this idea?

I think it sounds like a really cool idea. I don't know how easy it would be for people to judge a contest like that. Maybe if someone posted a cap or a short story, and then everyone did a cap based on the characters/events of that.

For example, a costume party where everyone becomes their costumes. Or a school dance where someone spikes the punch with a magic potion. Then, the caps submitted would be about someone at that party/dance.

i actually have a piggy back idea that goes with this:

The goal is to create one story using a series of captions.  Participants sign up and then put on Teams (perhaps 5-7 people to a team depending on how many participate).
The moderator of the game doesn't let people know who is on which team until it's their turn.  The first participant for each team is told to start.  Once they post their caption, the moderator releases the names of the next contestant in line.  After each caption is posted, a new participant is revealed until each person on the team is complete.  Judging can be voted on by a public poll and based on choice in pictures and how well the story flows together between each team member.   The blind team picking is so that no one can know who their teammates are until it's their turn and can't collaborate on the story ahead of time.

MistressSimone and Matt, I like both those ideas.   Certainly interesting and fun...count me in!

Well basically each entry would have to be a series of captions(on average about five).

I like making the Chain a random team event.  This would be cool and could allow for people with really different caption styles to create something very unique.  We have these in my profession, they are tag team stories where you sit around and tell part of the story and at some point you choose at random a person to take over the tale.  They are really fun.  Might be more of a special contest though and not limited to the Monthly to enable times and work schedules.  Maybe a two month endeavor.

That would work for me, as long as I am not the first to go, so I have something to look on for some ideas how to continue the chain :)

one thing that could make that fun is to have names randomly drawn for the order :)
