It's summer; people have kids, vacations, travels...
And the ones that don't, usually have extra work to cover for their coworkers.
The end result is the same: less time for volunteer activity.
If the lack of contests bothers you, you can participate in the ongoing 2-for-1 deals until the situation resolves.
