I can understand how you must feel this time of year, my parents announced their divorce the week of Thanksgiving, and my Grandfather died right after Valentines 2 years later. I tend to get a little down myself around those normally 'special' days.

Ever thought about using something extra to try to keep him from chewing on certain things?
I had a great old dog that if left alone for a few hours in the yard would chew on the fence until he could get out. I tried a citrus based product, kind of a repellent that would make it taste awful. It came in a little spray bottle, and since it was outside, I just had to reapply every few days after it was rinsed away, but it really worked! It may help your furniture at least until he gets the clue, after all, it helped me teach an old dog!
