Recycled Captions

Ok, how about this one.

Every picture used in the contest has to have been used for a previous caption elsewhere on the Haven. Preferably a picture used by someone else rather than one you have used before.

I kind of like this idea, but I missed it first time around.

I had been thinking about a contest where the pictures were provided ahead of time. That's kind of along the same lines as this.

I'm surprised there isn't a "caption the picture" type contest on the haven. 

I think that if there is a recycled caption contest, i feel the captions should be picked ahead of time OR the original has to be referenced/linked in the post when you post the caption.

Yes me too, it would be fun to see how many different stories we would end up with and how people tell them. 

I think that if there is a recycled caption contest, i feel the captions should be picked ahead of time OR the original has to be referenced/linked in the post when you post the caption. 

Perhaps we could pick an individual person's folder to take caps from to give more choice. The original should definitely be referenced too.

I think that would be difficult because that would require readers to go back and find/read the caption beforehand and you might also need to find new source pictures

I was thinking about this contest and wanted to pick it, but I thought it would be cooler if people post pictures first ... we can then set up a poll and pick the best 5 or 10 pictures that have to be used in this contest theme.

Go for it if you want, but personally I wouldn't join. Just doesn't seem quite right somehow. Closest comparison I can think of is turning up to a party in a snazzy dress, to see someone else wearing one just like it. Except you knew they were wearing it, and chose it anyway. It'd be weird.

I'm never comfortable taking over someone else's work- A, it srikes me as unimaginative, B, you're limited to their rules. Plus, I'd worry so much about not messing up pre-established rules and continuity that anything I did write would be crap. Hell, I rarely even use well-established 'classic' captionverses like the Great Shift or Medallion of Zulo because of it.
